We’re very excited to welcome Adam Hoopengardner back to Philly after too long! He’ll be DJing our February 22 Milonga Qilombo, and teaching two workshops. Please plan on joining us!

Saturday, February 22

8-9:30 pm (Note early start time!): Pre-Milonga Workshop - “Tango Musicality Revealed: Andres & Adam Explore Tango Musicality and Its Cultural Roots.” Having come to tango from two very different paths, Andres and Adam will teach a class on how to interpret Tango music from their respective backgrounds, and how they have come to overlap over time. We will offer a class where we will listen, discuss, and dance to several pieces of music from different perspectives.

9:30 pm-2 am: Milonga Qilombo with DJ Adam Hoopengardner

Sunday, February 23

2-4 pm: Intensive Workshop for Int/Adv students: “Dancing the Musical Bridges” - Adam Hoopengardner & Mary Carmel Etienne

2-4 pm each day

Join us for another edition of our popular Advanced Beginner Intensive (level 2). This intensive prepares students to take any intermediate-level classes or workshops at the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School. To prepare for the Advanced Beginner Intensive, students should take the Beginner Intensive, or attend Wednesday 8 pm Beginner classes for at least one month.

All students will practice both roles. Because we are practicing both roles, even students with much more experience can benefit from taking the Advanced Beginner Intensive.

Topics covered include:

• Cross System
• The Cross Basic Step
• Back Ochos and steps that are easily accessible from them
• Lead-and-follow improvisation
• Navigation of the social dance floor
• Basic musicality: Phrasing and the Beat

Our Two-Day Beginner Intensive offers a fun and efficient way to jump-start your tango, in the course of one weekend. The Intensive covers the basics of tango movement and communication in a friendly environment in which everyone tries both roles.

No experience or partner necessary!

Full intensive: $80
Single day: $50

If you are starting out, please plan to take both Saturday & Sunday classes. If you have completed our beginner program in the past, you are welcome to take a single day.

Please bring socks to dance in, or shoes that have smooth soles for easy and safe pivoting.
