About the Vera Quartet:
The Vera Quartet shares the uniquely democratic dynamic of a string quartet with diverse audiences within and beyond the concert hall.
Winners of the 2018 Astral Artists National Auditions, the Vera Quartet is currently the String Quartet in Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music. The quartet received Grand Prizes at the Chamber Music Yellow Springs and Plowman Chamber Music Competitions, top prizes from the M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet Prize from the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition.
Highlights of this season include collaborations with pianist Peter Serkin and violist Hsin-Yun Huang, and residencies at the San Juan Music Academy in Argentina, Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland, Intimacy of Creativity Festival in Hong Kong, and Rockport Chamber Music Festival.
The Vera Quartet has held residencies at the Aspen Music Festival, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Beethovenhaus in Germany, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and McGill International String Quartet Academy. In 2017, they were selected as one of five Young Artists in Residence at NPR’s Performance Today. Recent seasons have included international tours to Argentina, Hong Kong, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, and Vietnam.
Formed in 2015 at Indiana University, the Vera Quartet was mentored by the Pacifica Quartet as Graduate Quartet in Residence at the Jacobs School of Music. The quartet has also worked with members of the Brentano, Guarneri, and Orion quartets, as well as Pamela Frank, Atar Arad, and Shmuel Ashkenasi.
The ensemble firmly believes in the power of chamber music to transform people, and to ultimately contribute towards a just, egalitarian, and inclusive society.
