  • An introduction to navigating the social dance floor

Students can also complete this level by attending an Advanced Beginner Intensive.

At this level, we focus on:

  • Slightly more complex steps and concepts for improvisation
  • Cross system, the cross basic step, ochos, and the sandwich
  • Creating a comfortable, responsive and respectful embrace
  • How the social dance floor works; how to be a good citizen there
  • Confidence to try all of this on the social dance floor

Intermediate Tango - Level 3

Mondays, 8-9:30 pm
$25 drop-in | $110 for 5-class card or $190 for 10-class card
Taught by: Andres and/or Meredith and/or guest instructor in residence
Students should plan to attend both Monday classes (if possible), and attend at least one practica or milonga per week, for 6 months before moving on to the next level.

At this level, we focus on:

  • More refined technique for ochos, giros (turns), boleos, changes of direction, ganchos, and more
  • Movements around the leader’s axis, around the follower’s axis, and around an invisible axis between the partners
  • Refined musical awareness, including the differences between orchestras, and among tango, milonga and vals
  • Musicality in terms of phrases, beats, and fractions of the beat
  • Applications of these new steps and concepts which are safe on the social dance floor, and which feel comfortable to the partner

Students who attend the intermediate class are strongly encouraged to come earlier for the Tango Technique class (Mondays, 7-8 pm). We use the technique class to prepare for whatever technique or musicality challenges may be coming in the intermediate class.

Advanced Tango - Level 4
