Studio Trio

Based in New York City, “Studio Trio” includes Argentineans Javier Sánchez on bandoneon, Mel Atoyan on violin and Emiliano Messiez on piano. Their repertoire is based on traditional Tango arrangements plus some other original reinterpretations. Studio Trio brings a unique flavour to the repertoire of the Argentine Tango with a personal sound that will make you want to dance or simply enjoy this wonderful and incomparable music.


Javier Sanchez was born and raised in Buenos Aires and has been playing the bandoneoŽn for 25 years. He toured the globe with large well known orchestras and performance groups such as Rodolfo Mederos Orchestra Tipica, Tango Pasion, Tanguera - Mora Godoy and Tango Emotion (returning to Japan for 5 consecutive years). Javier also played in many well known tango shows in Buenos Aires, such as El Viejo AlmaceŽn, Esquina de Carlos Gardel, CafeŽ Tortoni, Piazzolla Tango Theater and many more. He won First Place of the prestigious Che Bandoneon International Competition in August 2016 judged by Victor LavalleŽn. He now lives and plays in New York Metropolitan area with Astoria Tango Orchestra and many other groups.


Melisa Atoyan was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina of Armenian parents. A winner of AGBU Performing Arts Fellowship 2009 and 1st prize winner of the FundacioŽn Banco Mayo Competition in Argentina, Mel Atoyan has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and South America in venues such as The Coliseo Theater, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, The Cutting Room and has worked for America’s Got Talent at Radio City Music Hall. Mel Atoyan was accepted in the International Competition Training Course “La Scuola di Musica di Fiesole” in Italy, and studied with renown pedagogue, Pavel Vernikov and with Valery Oistrakh at Brussels Royal Conservatory in Belgium. Besides her training in classical music, Melisa also performs tango and has worked with the Eternal Tango Orchestra, Astoria Tango Orchestra and with many renown tango musicians. She is currently the first violin in the Astoria Tango Orchestra under the direction of distinguished bandoneon player, Daniel Binelli. Since 2017 Melisa has been part of the New Opera Company and the Utopia Opera Company as their concertmaster for several productions.


Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and based in New York City, Emiliano started to play the piano at the age of 4. He graduated from the University of National Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he will end up teaching years later. Besides Classical Music, Emiliano has also trained and mastered in Tango, Jazz, Popular Music and Latinamerican Rhythms. He has been performing a wide range of music genres in important venues and festivals all around the world, being part of significant artists such as Raul Jaurena, Pablo Aslan, JP Jofre, Pedro Giraudo and “Infantino Group” with whom he recorded an album granted with the Unesco Prize. He has been the music director of the show “Tango Buenos Aires” created by Mario & Daniel Celario and the creator of “Barolo Tango”, a tango show based in Argentina. He is the former pianist of the group “The Aces of Rhythm” with whom he performed at the Lincoln Center in New York plus many other venues. Emiliano is the pianist for the Broadway/London hit production Luis Bravo’s “Forever Tango”.
