Intermediate-Level Intensives

We're excited to present three Intensives for intermediate-level dancers throughout the winter of 2017-2018.  Each workshop features collaboration among multiple teachers with different perspectives.  Each is followed by La Milonga Que Faltaba at MAAS Space later the same evening. So make it a tango day/night!

WORKSHOP 1 - Sunday, December 10, 2-4 pm

Taught by Krissy McFadden, Amy Yang, and Meredith Klein

You’ve probably noticed that some people get ridiculously happy and excited when a tanda of “milonga” comes on during a practica or milonga.  Maybe you don’t get it.  Maybe you’re even confused by the different meanings of the word “milonga” in the first sentence of this description.  Either way… DON’T WORRY.  Krissy, Amy and Meredith are famous for their love of milonga and their ability to make it lovable, accessible and fun to dancers of all levels.

In this workshop, we’ll cover:
* how to choose material for milonga, given its quick pace
* steps and sequences that form the basic building blocks of milonga improvisation; and
* basic milonga musicality.
Get ready to move your feet and have a lot of fun!

WORKSHOP 2 - Sunday, January 14, 2-4 pm

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF MANY KINDS: A Primer in Close-Embrace Tango
Taught by Barbara Kountouzi

Did you know that there is not just one style of close-embrace tango? "Close embrace" is actually an umbrella term that refers to the distance (or lack of) between the two partners.  Under this umbrella, however, there are many possibilities.  The first part of this class will give you an overview of the various close-embrace styles with a focus on the corresponding teaching approaches so you can make the most out of any close-embrace class you attend. The second part of the class will be an introduction to Barbara's favorite style, 'nuevo close embrace'.

This class is best suited for dancers with minimal experience in close-embrace as well as for dancers who have been taking classes for a while but have not established or mastered a preferred close-embrace style yet.

WORKSHOP 3 - Sunday, February 11, 2-4 pm
