About the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School

The Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS) was founded in 2008 to offer top-notch instruction in Argentine tango to beginners through professional dancers in Philadelphia. In addition to group and private lessons, the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School offers weekly practicas, monthly milongas and many larger events.  We have hosted seven major tango festivals (the next one is coming up May 25-28, 2018), and brought a number of major tango bands from Argentina to Philadelphia. We have also organized four Tango Tours to Buenos Aires.

The school is directed by Meredith Klein, who has been dancing tango for 19 years and teaching tango full-time since 2006. Meredith is pleased to be able to bring a steady stream of internationally-recognized tango talent into Philadelphia each year, starting with Andres Amarilla, her dance partner, who spends 6 months of the year in Philadelphia. Throughout the rest of the year, we host guest teachers for extended residencies. Over the past 10 years, PATS has hosted a total of 70 different guest teachers. Many have come on more than one occasion; and many stay for significant period of time (2-10 weeks). For a complete list of guest teachers, please click here.

In October 2009, School Founders Andres Amarilla & Meredith Klein established a permanent studio in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia.  They are enthusiastically collaborating with other local arts and development organizations to help build a robust Frankford Ave Arts Corridor.
